Building a Portfolio Career as a Generator with Taylor Morrison

Today, Michelle and Wallis are excited to be chatting with prolific creative, entrepreneur, and dear community member, Taylor Elyse Morrison.

Taylor Elyse Morrison is an author, facilitator, and coach, making well-being and personal development more accessible. Through her company Inner Workout and her book of the same name, Taylor supports people’s journey to know, care for, and become their full selves.

This episode, we go deep on:

  • Taylor’s perspective on building a portfolio career without burning out

  • How redefining self-care as self-expertise has affected Taylor’s healing journey

  • What Taylor’s ADHD diagnosis and Human Design readings have done to aid in her entrepreneurial journey and building a portfolio career

I realized that I built my whole life as one giant coping mechanism for ADHD. I work for myself, I work on a variety of different projects, I have a lot of autonomy, but I also can create structure for myself. It’s like, oh, yeah, this makes so much sense!
— Taylor Morrison
I’m just a person who likes to build things and create things, and sometimes that’s businesses, sometimes that’s art. And having this portfolio career gives me a little bit more breathing room to hold all of the different offerings that I want to give to the world.
— Taylor Morrison
I found that it’s most useful for me to not think of self care as something that I buy or a list of specific things that I do, but rather an ongoing conversation that I’m having with myself. And if you’re in a good and an interesting conversation, there’s going to be some shift and some change. So what’s been most useful for me is honestly listening to myself, understanding what works for me, which may not work for other people.
— Taylor Morrison
I just see a lot of people like, that person is doing that, so I need to copy-paste what they’re doing. And that is just the fastest track to burnout!
— Taylor Morrison
What are those things that are important to you that need to be present in the lifestyle that you’re trying to build. Because ultimately, when you’re building a portfolio career, you’re often doing it because of a lifestyle that you want to lead.
