From Bootstrapping to Raising Venture Capital (and staying sane) with Lauren Haynes
This month we’re sitting down with guests to talk about the big M word. That's right, money, honey. And all how we relate to, avoid relating to and hate relating to it. Yikes! That sounds heavy, but luckily in this episode, we’re joined by the hilarious, thoughtful, and ingenious entrepreneur, Lauren Haynes of Wooden Spoon Herbs.
Lauren walks us through the spiraling path of transitioning from bootstrapping her business, to raising venture capital, saying goodbye to Facebook ads, and the exciting changes that are afoot for the business in a season of big change.

“It’s really important to be transparent, because there is no way to learn this except by doing and by sharing your story by hearing other people’s experiences.”
“No one cares about exponential growth this year. People are valuing omni channel and profitability, which is where Wooden Spoon is so strong, and has been so strong for most of its life. So it was really challenging, I think, to raise with the expectation of exponential growth, but with the expectation of profitability, and thoughtful expansion, thoughtful growth. We’re in a really good place, and that just goes back to, you have to stay true to your vision and your values, because the investing world is so fickle, and it’s so follow-the-leader, just so trend-based.”
“I get to mutually consent to whether I want these people in my business, and in my life, because it is a relationship. It’s like marriage, you’re signing a contract, just like you would when you get married to somebody.”
“It’s really fun to see your favorite brands on the shelves wherever you shop!”
“Trust the process. And I think that’s something that I have a hard time doing...”
